BRIDGNORTH SNOOKER LEAGUE

SEASON 2011-12

SNOOKER LEAGUE CUES OFF

The Bridgnorth Snooker League will cue back into action on Tuesday 13th September 2011 with the same number of teams as last season but with the loss of Highley A and the addition of Broseley C.

At the recently held AGM Arley’s Kevin Hawkins was elected Chairman and John Martin, from Chelmarsh, took up the position of Vice-Chairman. Alveley’s Tony Bill, who presented a health Balance Sheet, which boasted net Assets in excess of £2,600, accepted a fourth term as Treasurer.

Chris Jepson expressed that he still wished to step down after serving as Secretary for the past 11 years (and 23 seasons in total), but agreed to get the new season underway. At present the Secretarial position remains open and applications for the post are being sought. Although never taken by the retiring Secretary, a reasonable Honorarium is available to the successful candidate. Anyone interested in becoming Secretary should address their Application to either the Chairman or retiring Secretary, or make their position known at the Committee Meeting to be held on Monday night: 5th September 2011.

Pauline Ellingham and her family have donated a new Cup to the League named the ‘Colin Ellingham Memorial Cup’, which was welcoming received by all at the meeting. Colin, who had been the League’s Chairman for the past 23 seasons sadly passed away earlier this year. The new ‘high profile’ Cup will replace the aging Individuals ‘Handicap’ Shield.

The League will be 60 years old on 24th September. To mark the occasion, the League has already donated sets of new snooker balls to Clubs that participate in the League and will, in the near future, be presenting a ‘fob watch’ to all regular 2010-11 League members. As part of 60th Anniversary celebrations, consideration is also being given to playing a number of ‘test’ matches with other nearby Snooker Leagues. A favourable response has already been received from Telford and Kidderminster will consider the request at their next meeting.

The opening fixtures for the new season to be played on Tuesday 13th September 2011 are as follows:

Alveley B v Chelmarsh C

Arley v Chelmarsh A

Broseley B v Broseley C
